Here’s Your Swedish Word of the Day

(ett) fans – (fans, -en) fan; ardent follower
Hur många fans har Beatles? (How many fans do the Beatles have?)

This word is obviously directly borrowed from modern day English. Now pay
attention to the strange phenomenon of Swedes using the PLURAL form of the
english word in order to make the swedish SINGULAR! Interesting huh? That
means that in Swedish you can have “one fans” or “two fans” (ett fans, två
fans) since the swedish plural is also “fans”.

This phenomenon pops up in other loan words like “en muffins” (a muffin, one
muffin) or “ett tips” (a tip, one piece of advice). I will cover these words
in future newsletters, but for now I just wanted to make you aware of the
phenomenon.

Now since we are on the topic of fans, I figured I would share a letter that
I recently got from one of MY fans! This is what she wrote after having
